nerd

I've updated my MATLAB code for now, and am currently "trying" to run jobs on NIMROD!! (:
That makes me pretty excited. Hopefully it'll work, and then I can go from there, and write more code to figure out when the model is stable.

Basically, my project is working with a current rabbit heart model in the left ventricular myocytes (Shannon et al. 2004). I'm updating the MATLAB code to include ionic properties across the different sublayers, endocardial and epicardial. Using NIMROD, a program developed in Monash, I'm going to run the programs with lots of different parameters and try to stabilize the updated version.

Except I need to fix my NIMROD stuff since the jobs I was trying to run just failed on me.

I'm also trying to get more resources on NIMROD. It's pretty interested because using NIMROD, we're able to send jobs to different parts of the world and get results back. For example, I'm trying to set it up so that I can use resources in Malaysia and maybe Chile to run my experiment. Besides making things run more efficiently, it's kind of exciting being able to "work" in different parts of the world just through my laptop. :P

Last night, Heather and I went to watch Harry Potter. It was pretty good, but a lot different than I expected, as with all movies that are based on books. However, the movie experience was quite different. Actually, they call it a cinema here. Anyway, we went to the Jam Factory cinema, because on Tuesday nights, they have discounted tickets for $9, whereas on a normal day, with concession (student discount), the price is $11.50. Anyway, there's assigned seating! We got into the theater early, so we decided to sit wherever we wanted, but then people came and took their seats so we had to move, and after a couple tries, decided to just sit where we were assigned. The screen was initially covered by a curtain, and when time came for the movie to start, the curtains were drawn back, kind of like the theaters in actual movies. It was pretty cool. It was also a little weird because the pre-show actually started right when the movie was set to start, and it consisted of commercials for actual consumer products, rather than previews. Well, there were a couple of previews, but definitely not as many as in the States. Basically, that was the movie experience. Ooh, and on our way out, we bumped into Liz running up the stairs (Liz and Michelle had decided to watch Knocked Up instead which ended earlier). She had left her keys on one of the seats in the theater. Oops! But anyway, we asked a friendly man who worked there, and he had found them earlier, so yay. (: I really enjoyed the ads they had for all the movies - most of them were actual 3D structures (ie. the silver surfer from Fantastic Four was an actual life-size silver surfer). [Here I am trying to be a Simpson (: ]
On another nerd note, Heather and I reserved copies of Harry Potter! We're going to be getting the "children's edition," which I'm guessing just means a different cover from the "adult" version. I'm kind of excited because it's going to be the UK version with UK slang and pictures, and etc. rather than the U.S. version ANDD the best part is, if we pick it up this weekend, we get a Hedwig owl! (:
